Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, marks the auspicious beginning of the five-day Diwali festivities. Celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day (Trayodashi) of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik, it symbolizes wealth, health and prosperity. The festival is associated with Lord Dhanvantari, the divine physician and the embodiment of Ayurveda, who emerged from the Samudra Manthan carrying the nectar of immortality. On this day, devotees worship Lord Dhanvantari for good health, Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity, and Lord Kubera for abundance. Buying gold, silver, new utensils and other household items is considered an auspicious tradition. Homes are cleaned and decorated with beautiful rangolis, flowers and illuminated diyas. Families perform Dhanteras Puja and observe the tradition of lighting Yama Deepam to pray for protection and well-being. The festival reminds us that true prosperity lies not only in material wealth but also in good health, happiness and gratitude.

May the divine blessings bring peace, abundance and positivity into every home.
