India observes National Bird Day on January 5th to raise awareness about bird conservation, the threats birds face, and the importance of protecting their natural habitats. The day highlights issues such as habitat loss, pollution, climate change, and illegal bird trade, encouraging people to act responsibly toward wildlife. India is home to more than 1,300 bird species that play crucial roles in maintaining ecological balance through pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control. Alongside this, November 12th is celebrated as National Bird Watching Day in honor of Dr. Salim Ali, the “Birdman of India,” inspiring people to appreciate birds through observation and scientific study. Both days remind us to value and protect our feathered friends, promote conservation efforts, and preserve India’s rich avian biodiversity for future generations.
