Remembering Shivnath Singh: India's Marathon Legend

Born on 11 July 1946 in Majharia, Bihar, Shivnath Singh became one of India's greatest marathon runners.
He represented India at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, inspiring the nation with his determination. In 1974, he won the Asian Games gold medal in the 5,000m event. His historic marathon time of 2:12:00 (2:11:59), set at Jalandhar in May 1978, remained India's national record for an incredible 48 years.
Rising from humble beginnings and often running barefoot, he proved that perseverance can overcome every obstacle. His remarkable achievements brought immense pride to Indian athletics.
Even after his passing in 2003, his legacy continues to motivate generations of runners.
