Sarojini Naidu (13 February 1879 – 2 March 1949) was a renowned Indian poet, political activist, and a leading voice in the country’s struggle for independence. Celebrated as the “Nightingale of India” for her lyrical poetry, she became the first Indian woman to serve as President of the Indian National Congress and later the first woman governor of an Indian state (United Provinces, now Uttar Pradesh).
