Rahul Sankrityayan (1893–1963) was a remarkable Indian scholar, writer, and thinker. He is widely known as the “Father of Indian Travelogue Literature.”

He transformed travel writing into a respected literary form. He spent over 45 years traveling across Asia and beyond.

His journeys included regions like Tibet, Russia, China, and Central Asia. A true polymath, he mastered multiple languages and disciplines.

His writings beautifully blended history, culture, and personal experience. He was also a freedom fighter, Buddhist scholar, and Marxist thinker. Through Hindi and Bhojpuri, he elevated Indian literature significantly.
