National Space Day is celebrated every year on 23 August to commemorate India’s historic Chandrayaan-3 Moon landing in 2023.India became the first country to successfully land near the Moon’s south polar region, marking a landmark achievement in global space exploration.
The day honours the remarkable contributions of ISRO, scientists, engineers and everyone behind India’s growing space programme. From Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan to Aditya-L1, Gaganyaan and SpaDeX, India continues to expand its capabilities in space science and technology. Space research is also transforming everyday life through communication, navigation, weather forecasting, disaster management, agriculture and national development.
National Space Day celebrates India’s scientific progress while inspiring young minds to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It reflects the nation’s spirit of innovation, determination and self-reliance. Above all, it reminds us that India’s ambitions are no longer limited to Earth—they reach the Moon, the Sun and beyond.
