Maha Ashtami stands as one of the most sacred days of Durga Puja, celebrating Maa Durga’s courage, compassion, and victory over the forces of evil. It symbolises the eternal triumph of righteousness over darkness and reminds us that true strength lies in faith, truth, and inner resilience.

The day begins with prayers to Maa Durga, the chanting of sacred mantras, and the much-awaited Pushpanjali, in which devotees offer flowers and bel leaves with folded hands. Across Bengal, devotees gather in pandals dressed in festive attire, seeking the Goddess’s blessings for peace, prosperity, wisdom, and protection.Fresh flowers, bel leaves, fruits, coconut, sweets, incense, and diyas are offered with devotion. In many traditions, Kumari Puja honours the divine feminine through the worship of a young girl as a manifestation of the Goddess. The day’s most powerful ritual is Sandhi Puja, performed at the sacred transition between Ashtami and Navami. Traditionally, 108 lotus flowers and 108 lamps are offered during this worship of Maa Chamunda, commemorating the Goddess’s victory over the demons Chanda and Munda.Traditional offerings may include khichuri, labra, luchi, chholar dal, fruits, sweets, and payesh, depending on local customs. The rituals conclude with aarti, prayers, and the distribution of prasad, leaving devotees with a renewed sense of gratitude, courage, and spiritual strength.

2PF celebrates the eternal power of Maa Durga, the richness of our cultural heritage, and the courage to stand for truth — preserving the wisdom of the past, embracing the spirit of the present, and inspiring the possibilities of the future.
